Yes, I got back into my long distance bicycling a few weeks ago. Really, I dunno if you can consider it "long-distance bicycling" in the traditional sense. I mean, sure, I go for miles on end, but half of it is off-roading. I suppose to properly put it, "Mountain Biking". My typical excursions would be several miles on-road...usually anywhere from 5 to 20 miles, then if I find a place of interest to take the bike off-road, I'll switch into "mountain-biking" mode and take it from there. More times than not, I literally am up in the mountains somewhere or if not, then up in the foothills. The killer is climbing those damn hills! Good Lord! And not to mention, today was about 91 degrees, and there I was, biking up hills nearly at a 45 degree angle, huffing and puffing, drooling what was left of my body mass in water, getting week in the knees, losing muscle mass in the legs, huffing and puffing some more and thinking the whole while, "just 4 more miles uphill, just 4 more miles uphill, then there'll be a huge gigantic cold swimming pool to jump into"! And did I make? Of course I did! How dare you ask! Oh, and the pool? Huh! I never did seem to find it.
Well, when I finally did make it to the top, I'm thinking I must have passed out or something, cause I swore I heard a few people ask, "Is he dead? Is he dead? If he is, then I got first dibs on his bike"! Then I jumped up with a snarl, fingers curled and poised. I ended up with about 41 miles going to, and the same amount coming back. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I came back home "almost" as good a shape as I had left....that is, I only crashed 3 times, got a dozen or so scratches and scars from riding through bushes, a kinked neck, sore elbow and a brand new scar on my sore ass....the left cheek by the way and some missing skin on my right thumb. So overall result of the ride? Success! So in other news, I'll be heading to Disney World Florida this coming Wednesday (17th) and be back on the following Monday night or Tuesday morning. It's another work-related event. As mentioned in a previous post, I'm not all that excited, although, it will be good to get out of town for a change. Either way, I'm sure I'll still have my fun. But from what I've heard, Florida at this time of year is hot and muggy! Man, and I hate muggy weather! Oh well.
Okay folks, need to get going. I think my pork is burned by now. Oh and by the way. Don't go biking 40 miles uphill on a 91 degree day, cause when you pass out, don't be surprised to find your bike missing.
