Last night I was home alone.....again.....my friends went out and wanted to drag me with them but I had some serious issues with this laptop again which I had to remedy soon since I had a crap load of homework. But being home alone, I got tired of fighting with the comp and decided to see what was on the old boob-tube, as my dad would call it. And being October, there were plenty of horror flicks playing......one of which is one of my favorites......28 Days Later. So there I am watching it....home alone.......late at night.......in the dark......with screams and shreaks and gurggling of blood coming from the TV....the only sound in the house. So, I'm watching, no prob, seen it before.......and then..........AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! IT'S MIDNIGHT!! So I shut the TV off and head to bed, but the problem was, I couldn't fall asleep. That damn movie kept playing through my mind. I kept thinking, what if that really happened. What would be my first step? Would I grab some guns and supplies and look around for other survivors? Or would I piss my pants and hide myself in the attic. Knowing me, I'd probably piss my pants and then grab some guns and look for survivors......after checking my email and posting an "End of the World" article on the internet. Anyhow, obviously, I hardly got any sleep and what seemed to be about a minute or two later, I'm jumping out of bed to my alarm clock. So there I am, rushing around to hurry out the door......as usual. And as I'm just about to open the front door, I hear a tapping...as if someone gently rapping.....rapping at my chamber door.......oh, I mean, at my backyard glass door; (for those of you who are abit slow, that was a snippet from "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe). My mind automatically thinks of that movie! So I creep over there to the glass door, pull the blinds out of the way.....and flick on the outside lights real quick! Hah hah! What do you know! It's lightly raining......but how odd since the previous day was bright and sunny. Well, now I'm in the car driving to work and all of a sudden I notice that it's really dark.....I mean, really, really dark. Infact, none of the stop lights are even on.........and really strange.....not a single car around. And what do you know, my mind goes right back to that movie. I'm thinking, "Man, what if that happened? What if everyone got turned into a walking zombie ambling around looking for brains to munch! I mean, everything is pitch black and there's not a single car in sight". By then I was actually getting abit nervous and by the time I drove into the work parking lot, I had my car doors locked and my mag light at the ready incase I needed to bash the ooz out of some rushing zombie.
To make a long story short, It wasn't until I parked my car that I realized the power was actually out.....(and my mind was telling me it was because some zombies ate the brains of the power plant operators, but I ignored my mind...which wasn't hard to do since I often ignore it anyhow). Again, here I am, typing away at my laptop, in my car, in a blacked-out part of town, with the rain tapping away at my windows and the quiet hum of the CPU fans running under the computer. Really, it's actually quite peaceful......I'm kinda liking it. You know, I've always enjoyed October.....and not because my b-day happens to fall on this month, but because it's the time to have fun thinking it's the end of the world. I think I enjoy scaring the crap out of the kids knocking at my door waiting for treats by creeping up from behind. Or putting make-up on...(in the name of dressing up as a monster that is). Or even watching scary movies while eating popcorn with friends and loved ones. And ahhh, we can't forget the good 'ol pumpkin pies! And by the way, to be truthful, I don't think I'd mind being a zombie. Heck, imagine eating some of the smartest brains in the world; so wripe with knowledge, I'd imagine they would be quite sweet.
